Commuters hit by long rush-hour delays on the M60 near Stockport

A motorcyclist was thrown from his bike on the M60 resulting in motorists being hit by a huge rush-hour gridlock.

The incident affected commuters heading clockwise on the M60 towards Stockport, with tailbacks stretching back towards Oldham after the crash near Junction 26.

Hundreds of motorists were forced to a crawl through Stockport town centre late into the evening after police were forced to close nearby Crookilley Way.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said the motorcyclist was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital following the crash, although his injuries were not life-threatening and he was discharged soon after.
