The M61 motorway was closed in both directions under police instruction as they dealt with an incident involving a man on a bridge.
Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M61 near J3 to J4 at Farnworth as a result of the closure, as officers spoke with the man.
It is understood the man was first reported on the bridge over the M61 from about 11.30am, forcing the motorway closure.
Police said that the incident ended at 12pm, but were unable to immediately reopen the carriageways as some drivers were stood outside their cars.
Claims if your vehicle has been struck by an object
If you’re vehicle has been struck by object while travelling at speed then this could have very dramatic consequences as a result. You could end up losing control of the vehicle and suffering from a life-threatening injury as a result, meaning you could be forced to undergo a lengthy stay in hospital or worse. If you believe you have suffered as a result of a foreign object striking your vehicle that was through no fault of your own, then you could look to make a claim for compensation.
