Met Office issue 'yellow alert' as thick fog set to return overnight

The Met Office has urged drivers to take care on the roads after issuing a severe weather warning for the North West.

The yellow alert - which is the lowest level warning - warns of hazardous conditions from 1am until 11am on Friday morning.

It comes after a blanket of fog caused delays for drivers, with many people being forced to significantly reduce their speed, causing tailbacks on the M6 and M62 at morning rush hour.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Fog is expected to become widespread and locally dense again through Thursday night and Friday morning. Visibility is likely to fall below 100 metres at times, locally less than 50 metres.

“The public should be aware of the likelihood of difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption.”

Claims if you have been injured during foggy conditions

Here in the UK the weather can be quite unpredictable and as such this can cause chaos on the roads, with many people being left suffering from injuries from accidental collisions. One of the most dangerous types of weather you could encounter however is fog, as it can arise at any moment and reduce your visibility to a minimum. It is important in cases such as this that the appropriate precautions are in place such as warning lights and traffic flow stimulators, so if you believe this has not been the case and you have been injured then making a claim could be the best option for you.
