Carbon monoxide possibly to blame for death of a Coldhurst couple

Carbon monoxide could have been to blame for the death of a 59-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman in Eden Street, Coldhurst on Friday.

The bodies were found by police and paramedics at around 12pm after a family member concerned for their welfare raised the alarm.

After a post mortem proved inconclusive, a toxicology test will now be carried out to determine the causes of death.

It’s believed that the couple could have been subjected to carbon monoxide poisoning – a colourless and odourless gas which could have leaked into the flat.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said the current investigation had indicated that the deaths were not suspicious.

“A Home Office post mortem took place which proved inconclusive and toxicology tests are due to take place.

“Inquiries are on-going but at this stage, it is believed the deaths are non-suspicious.”

Claiming for carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide can be one of the most potentially dangerous and lethal gases that you might come into contact with, mainly due to its colourless and odourless nature which makes it incredibly hard to identify in any environment. If you are subjected to this gas either in a home or working environment then it could be due to equipment that has not been correctly maintained and potential leaks that haven’t been detected through the proper safety procedures not being adhered to.

In some situations a prolonged exposure to carbon monoxide can lead to death or long term injuries being sustained, if you find yourself in this position then you may consider a compensation claim to cover any costs that you have incurred.
