Christmas crackdown for drink drivers

As it comes to that time of year again, the police will be stepping up their drink driving campaigns over the Christmas period.

In a bid to cut down the death toll on our roads over Christmas, police will be stopping hundreds of motorists and testing them for drugs and alcohol over this period.

In 2010, 62 people died on the roads as a result of drink driving and last Christmas around 7000 road users underwent drink driving tests.

Chief Inspector Mark Dexter offers some warm words of advice to people considering using their cars over the festive period.

“Ensure someone in your group remains sober and acts as designated driver or take public transport – that way everyone is sure to get home safely,” he said.

“People also need to be aware that they could still be over the limit the morning after the night before. You might feel fine, but you could still have alcohol in your system that could impair your driving.”

“If you drink alcohol or take drugs before driving we will catch up with you.”

Claims against drink drivers

Drink driving is an incredibly serious offence as it is not only incredibly dangerous, but it can lead to accidents which may leave people with serious injuries. Drink driving is against the law and if you are involved in an accident which has been caused by a drink driver, then you could be eligible to make a compensation claim against them to recoup any losses that you have made as a result.

Motor vehicle accidents can lead to a number of serious injuries and as a result the rehabilitation can be quite substantial. Recovering from this type of injury can lead to time off work and therefore a loss of income, putting additional stress on your family.

You shouldn’t have to pay for the negligence of another person, and you don’t. In this situation you can make a personal injury claim to cover any medical or other related expenses, including loss of income, that you have suffered as a result.
