When a person attacks you for no reason then it is generally labelled as assault and you are normally permitted to use reasonable force to defend yourself. Women in particular can be susceptible to assault as they are usually not as strong as men and struggle to defend themselves against a stronger counterpart. This can often leave them feeling vulnerable and scared when it comes to reporting an assault to authorities.

What are some common assault injuries and where do they occur?

Assaults can occur at any place at any time, but some of the more common occurrences are:

  • Nightclubs – an alcohol fuelled disagreement between two patrons can often result in a fight which can involve on party assaulting the other
  • Knife assault – when one person attacks another with a knife
  • Bottling – the use of a broken or smashed bottle to attack another member of the public
  • Sexual assault – sexually assaulting a member of the opposite sex
  • At home – a wife or husband can assault their respective partner

What should I do if I’ve been assaulted?

If you have been assaulted then you should report the assault to authorities straight away along with any underlying medical issues that have arisen from it. These can be any serious, visible injuries that have occurred as a result of the assault as well as any non-visible injuries that may have occurred. It is also important to report if you feel unwell or are experiencing any dizziness or nausea as this can point to other health problems which you may have incurred as a result of the assault.

The most important thing is to report the assault as soon as possible so that we can get working on your case straight away, the longer that you leave it the harder it can become to gain the evidence needed.
