Compensation for a Compound Fracture

Although the word “fracture” is often referred to as something that isn’t serious, this is not always the case. In some situations you may suffer just a light fracture which will generally heal itself within a few weeks, but in others such as the case with a compound fracture, it could  be a substantial break of a bone which leads to extensive surgery and a long rehabilitation period.

If you do find yourself in this situation through no fault of your own, then you could consider a compensation claim to recoup any financial damages that you have sustained.

What is a Compound Fracture?

Often referred to as one of the worst types of fractures that you could sustain, a compound fracture generally occurs when the bone is split so badly that the separated parts of the bone actually move away from each other. In many situations this can be seen visibly as a piece of bone jutting into or through the skin.

Compound fractures often require a great deal of rehabilitation and extensive surgery to correct, in most cases they will also require a pin or several pins to be inserted into the body the help the bones back into position. These pins can then be removed at a later date.

How could I be subjected to a Compound Fracture?

There are a number of different ways that you could sustain a compound fracture, some of the most common ways of sustaining one include:

  • Accidents in the workplace
  • Accidents in a shopping centre
  • Accidents which involve a fall from height
  • Injuries sustained during trips and slips
  • Motor vehicle accidents.
