Compensation for an Avulsion Fracture

In many situations you could find yourself sustaining an injury that you barely notice – often as the result of a light impact – and in this case you could find that you have sustained an avulsion fracture which could have the potential to have a serious impact on your health if it’s not appropriately treated.

Although avulsion fractures don’t have the impact that a regular heavy fracture would have, they can still be painful and make it difficult to do a number of tasks, including putting weight on a limb that you have sustained an avulsion fracture in. If you do find yourself in this situation then you could be eligible to make a compensation claim.

What is an Avulsion Fracture?

An avulsion fracture is slightly different to a traditional fracture in that it occurs when a small part of the bone breaks away from the larger bone area. In general, avulsion fractures can take less time to heal than a traditional fracture as they usually don’t involve an area which has been completely broken or fractured, but they can be quite problematic in that surgery can often be needed to reattach the area which has split off to the main bone and this surgery can often be quite precise.

Where might I sustain an Avulsion Fracture?

Avulsion fractures can happen in a number of different situations, but most commonly they are the result of an impact. Some common examples of situations where you could sustain an avulsion fracture include:

  • Trips and falls from a height
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Accidents which occur in the workplace
  • Accidents which occur on private or public property
  • Accidents which involve children.
