Compensation for Chemical Peel Injuries

When it comes to beauty treatments, in recent years we have been subjected to more innovative and creative approaches, and one major form of beauty treatment which has come onto the market is a chemical peel. Designed for use specifically on the face, a chemical peel removes the top layer of the skin and with it any impurities or blemishes, leaving a fresh layer of skin underneath to grow through, giving a more youthful appearance.

Although chemical peels have now become quite a popular choice when it comes to beauty treatments, due to the chemicals that are used and the delicate nature of the facial skin, there are many problems which can be associated with this type of technique, especially if it is performed by an untrained practitioner.

If you have been left with serious injuries as a result of negligence while having a chemical peel then you could be eligible to make a claim for compensation.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a technique which involves the application of chemicals to the top layer of the skin with the aim of killing off any dead skin cells, causing them to peel or fall away from the healthy skin, which in turn allows the healthy skin to grow through. There are a number of different chemical peels currently available and these include retinoic acid, alpha hydroxy acid and trichloroacetic acid peels.

How could I be injured?

When it comes to chemical peels there are a number of problems that could occur and this includes:

  • Infection – if the chemical peel goes deeper than it should do then you could be at risk of a bacterial infection deep into your skin, this can be very difficult to treat
  • Scarring – if you develop any blisters during the chemical peel process then this could spread around the area and leave you with severe facial scarring
  • Incorrect chemicals – if the incorrect chemicals are used during the peel then you could suffer from severe chemical burns as a result
  • Pigmentation – the colour of your skin could be adversely affected if your skin has a reaction to the chemical
  • Allergies – your skin could have an allergic reaction to one or more chemicals which may be used on your skin.
