Compensation for Liposuction

With increasing obesity rates around the UK, many people are looking for quicker and more effective ways to lose weight. For people who have tried cutting down their diet or going to the gym, there are little options left and many of these people turn to liposuction as a way of removing unwanted fat from certain areas of their body, slimming down in a surgical manner.

As with any type of surgery, liposuction can be dangerous if there is negligence on behalf of the surgeon, or if the patient has not been fully apprised of the dangers surrounding the surgery and the correct aftercare procedures that need to be taken.

If you have recently had liposuction which has left you with injuries as a result and you feel that your surgeon has been negligent towards you, then you could be eligible to make a compensation claim.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the oldest forms of cosmetic surgery, yet today it still remains as one of the most popular ones. It can be performed in almost any area of the body, but some of the most popular areas include the abdomen, thighs, hips and tricep areas. It involves the removal of unwanted fat cells by a surgical procedure which makes small incisions into the surface of the skin and slowly removes the fat from the body.

The skin is then stretched taught over the remaining fat to give the skin a more youthful appearance and remove any excess skin that may have been left over as a result. There are a number of ways that the liposuction technique can be performed and this includes through suction, ultrasound and with the use of water.

What can go wrong with Liposuction?

When it comes to liposuction there are a number of things that can potentially go wrong and these include:

  • Reactions to the anaesthetic, either local or general
  • Errors during surgery including damage to surrounding tissues
  • Infections due to unhygienic procedures
  • Problems after the operation due to poor aftercare
  • The patient not being made aware of any potential problems associated with the procedure.

What injuries could I receive as a result?

If your surgeon is negligent towards you during the liposuction procedure then you could be left with the following injuries:

  • Damage to surrounding tissues
  • Scarring
  • Internal bleeding
  • Stretch marks and other skin problems
  • Infections.
