Essex hospital warned to improve its children’s services

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has warned an Essex hospital that its children’s services must improve after they were found to be “completely unacceptable”.

The death of a 10-year-old girl from a suspected drugs errors prompted the visit, but after further investigations the CQC returned with a “number of serious concerns”.

“What our inspectors found at the trust on 3 November was completely unacceptable,” said Andrea Gordon, the CQC’s Deputy Director of Operations.

“We have taken this action to assist in driving through improvements which have a positive impact on the people being cared for at the hospital.”

“It is imperative that the trust now ensures it makes changes which are sustainable, embedded and maintained for the future.”

The hospital was told by the CQC in July to make improvements to its A + E department and after further inspections, improvements had been made.

Hospital Chief Executive Clare Panniker wants to assure the local community that the hospital is committed to improving the standards of their children’s care across the board.

“By commissioning a review of our paediatric services we can be sure we are looking at every are to best meet their needs,” she said.

Making a compensation claim for medical negligence

Although in general our healthcare system is very good, there are still situations where medical negligence can potentially occur and unfortunately if you are the victim in this way then you could potentially be left with serious, long-term injuries and other problems.

If you haven’t been accurately diagnosed, if you have suffered through injuries during surgery or if you have suffered in any other way through the negligence of a medical practitioner, you could be eligible to make a compensation claim.
