Manchester Dental Hospital extracts wrong tooth

Nine thousand pounds in compensation has been awarded to a Hulme man after a dentist mistakenly removed a healthy tooth.

The man who suffered agonising pain was referred to Manchester Dental Hospital for the removal of three teeth, but after the extraction he realised that an extra tooth had been removed.

A mistake in the records was to blame for the wrongful extraction which now leaves James Lacey facing a £2,200 bill for an implant crown.

“Having teeth removed, especially under sedation, requires a lot of trust and I feel let down that the hospital made such a huge mistake. I’m glad that this is now settled and that I can begin to move on,” Lacey said.

“The money I have been awarded will go towards the remedial treatment I now need.”

Trust bosses at the hospital have now taken action to help ensure that the same mistake will not happen again.

“We would like to extend our sincere apologies to Mr Lacey,” a spokesperson said.

“The investigation into the incident has been concluded and the hospital has acted upon the recommendations.”
