Schoolboy, 5, survives horrific car crash thanks to his 'bendy bone' syndrome

A five-year-old boy has escaped death after he was hit by a car travelling at 30mph.

According to doctors, Jayden Channell from Southend was able to absorb the impact of the car thanks to his highly-flexible joints.

Despite colliding with the bonnet and being sent flying, Jayden was able to stand up immediately and walk away with only a few cuts and grazes, while the car was left dented.

The incident occurred when Jayden was crossing the road as his family were loading up their car for a family day out on Bank Holiday Monday.

His mother Samantha Taplin, 26, said: “If that had been an ordinary child there is no way they would have survived.”

Jayden has hypermobility syndrome, meaning he is double-jointed, so he can make his joints stretch further than usual thanks to the collagen in his skin, which is weaker than normal.

Miss Taplin, who is now campaigning for speed bumps along the road, added: “Someone was watching over him that day, but things could be so much different.”

Road traffic accidents involving pedestrians

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a road traffic accident through no fault of your own, then you may be entitled to make a personal injury compensation claim. In most cases, if you are hit by a motorist then you are likely to sustain a serious injury, which could leave you in a lot of pain and having to spend an extended period of time in hospital.

Any form of road traffic accident can cause a serious injury, but the risk is increased even further when it involves a pedestrian. They are the least protected on the roads and so if you have been injured you shouldn’t have to suffer in silence. It’s never easy making a compensation claim and in many situations you can feel that you have been the victim of negligence here if the appropriate precautions haven’t been taken.
