Young boy escapes serious injury after manhole cover failure

A young boy has escaped with just cuts and bruises after falling 6ft down a drain after being the victim of a loose manhole cover.

The four year old boy was taken to a nearby hospital after he sustained the injury while out playing with his brother and uncle.

The Swansea boy’s mother Kerry expressed her concern after her child returned home covered in blood.

“He was hysterical – he had to have his head wound glued together. It could have been so much more serious. The cover getting lodged stopped him from going further,” she said.

“It was so dangerous I could have lost my son. He and his brother have been up there so many times.”
